The appeal of the video game sniper is obvious. It's the power to hit your unwary enemy between the eyes from half a mile away like an unseen bullet god. Also you get to lie down a lot, and who doesn't enjoy a lie down?
That appeal goes some way to explaining the success of 2010's Sniper Ghost Warrior, which was hampered by AI and graphical issues but sold two million copies nonetheless (its mid-range pricing helped). Happily, those two million sales let developer City Interactive splash out on the brawny CryEngine 3 for the (similarly priced) sequel Sniper Ghost Warrior 2, which looks splendid.
