Tokyo rift

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds is a side-scrolling Japanese beat 'em up in which girl warriors duff up zombified Tokyo businessmen, among other things. It's out now on Xbox Live Arcade. Take a peek at the gameplay in this video.

The game has up to four-player co-op locally or online, with a separate versus mode. It's a spin-off of obscure 2011 Japanese fighting game Phantom Breaker, with cutesy versions of that game's fighters as its four playable characters. Here, I'm battling through trendy Akihabara as sword master Mikoto. Her sword is two-thirds her whole height and her eyes are two-thirds of her whole face.

The details on the parallax-scrolling Akiba scenery also make great sightseeing for Japanophiles. Look for the red Club Sega arcade partway through the level.

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds - Cocoa's Nightmare Attack is out now on Xbox Live Arcade, with a free demo available to download.
