Tutorials are often a tedious but necessary way to teach you a game's fiddly bits. That's why when a game does something creative with a tutorial section, we want to cheer. Let's do that for these inspired training levels.

The best tutorials sneak in a deft bit of scene setting at the same time. Consider Portal 2, in which you receive a mini tutorial framed as an automated check for whether or not your brain has turned to soup while you were taking a big snooze in the Aperture Science Extended Relaxation Center.

And who didn't love romping around lovely, safe Croft Manor in the early Tomb Raiders? Or toddling around Vault 101 as a baby in Fallout 3?

Then there was the snarky parody of unskippable tutorials in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon that was, nonetheless, an unskippable tutorial. By having fun with it, Blood Dragon gets away with giving you a refresher course in all the stuff you basically remember from Far Cry 3.
