Being a videogame hero is usually a straightforward job, but you can't plan for the unintended consequences of all your reckless heroing. Here are seven times we thought we were doing the right thing and ended up making things much, much worse.

In Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, for example, you spend the first part of the game on an elaborate quest to make a voodoo doll of the guy who robbed you in the game's opening scene.

When you finally get around to using it, you also accidentally end up giving this guy the one thing he needs to bring your pirate nemesis LeChuck back from the dead, so he can get his revenge on you and the entire Caribbean. There was no way of predicting that was going to happen. Apart from reading the title of the game.
