7 Times You Made Your Own Fun in Games
Sometimes the most fun you can have is throwing away the rulebook and mucking around doing whatever you feel like, such as naming Link inappropriate things in Legend of Zelda games, writing your name in lightsaber in Jedi Knight 2, and locking Lara Croft's butler in the freezer in Tomb Raider 2.
Even go-getting grave robbers like Lara Croft aren't immune to the universal temptation of procrastination, at least not when we are playing her.
This is why at the start of Tomb Raider 2, instead of loading up the actual game, we sack off the trip to the Great Wall of China, which has death traps and spiders, and return to the Croft family mansion, which has a swimming pool and no spiders.
When you're tooling about in old Croft Manor, you come face to wizened old face with Winston, the faithful Croft family butler, whose chief purpose is to stalk Lara with a tray of teacups like a tinkly old ghost.
And sure, you could just ignore Winston while you speedrun the assault course for the umpteenth time, but it is 70 percent more fun to lure him into the walk-in freezer like that velociraptor in Jurassic Park, and then trap him in there, where he will die of hypothermia, also like that velociraptor in Jurassic Park.
