In science fiction a redshirt is a minor character who can be casually killed off, leaving the stars of the show to star another day, referencing the garments worn by such characters in the original Star Trek series. But the redshirt isn't just cannon fodder in TV and movies; sci-fi videogames are similarly packed with such characters so hopelessly full of optimism and bravery and bloody entrails that we give them ten minutes, tops, before those entrails are strewn across the level like beads at a Mardi Gras parade. Now consider seven of the most hapless in-game redshirts who were doomed from the start.

It's a weird time for videogames, with free-to-play games and microtransactions making it potentially both very cheap and infinitely expensive to get involved. But there are games out there so expensive they make even the priciest loot box look like a bargain. Here are seven ridiculously pricey videogames to bear in mind if and when you win the lottery.
Something fishy is going on with Agent 47 in The Aelwin Augment Escalation mission. He's tasked not with killing a target, but simply with pacifying them by slapping them in the head with a fish. It turns out to be an effective non-lethal melee weapon as this Hitman 2 Escalation descends into a fish rampage.
We've spoken before about the brief golden age of FMV, or Full Motion Video games, where you could film a bunch of theatre school dropouts in front of a blue screen, stick a sudoku puzzle in there every 20 minutes and call it a videogame. But it turns out we were only scratching the surface and that there are even murkier depths of weirdness lurking in the early nineties for us to explore. Here are seven of the most bizarre FMV games that would most definitely never get made today.
